Mourinho Signs Off on Roma Attempt to Buy Valencia Star

Gonçalo Guedes has been on the Roma radar for quite some time. It appears that the Giallorossi are indeed ready to open a negotiation to sign him. José Mourinho appreciates the player, and such addition would be instrumental for a return to a 4-2-3-1 scheme.

According to Alfredo Pedullà, the winger told Valencia that he wishes to depart this summer. He has two years left on his contract, so his price tag remains significant. The Spanish side reportedly wants at least €35M to part ways with him.

Ironically, the 25-year-old was at the heart of the dispute between Fiorentina and Gennaro Gattuso that led to the almost instantaneous divorce. The recently-hired boss might not have the opportunity to manage him this time around either. Napoli’s Matteo Politano could substitute him on the roster if the sale went through.

Roma will try to include at least one makeweight in the package for Guedes to limit the spending, the transfer market adds. Valencia previously took an interest in Amadou Diawara, Ebrima Darboe, Carles Perez, and Gonzalo Villar. The attacker is represented by super-agent Jorge Mendes. He logged 13 goals and 6 assists in 42 appearances last season. He has hit the 36 times in 178 matches with Los Taronges, which originally got him on loan from PSG and then bought him out for €40M in 2018.

Our Take on Roma Chasing After Guedes

The Portuguese international would undoubtedly be a high-profile addition, although it would require a significant investment. The more interesting aspect is whether the Giallorossi would be able to sign him while keeping Nicolò Zaniolo, therefore assembling a potent frontline, or if he is simply a prospective replacement of their starlet.
