Nandez Rejected Loan Move to Juventus, Cagliari Exec Claims

Juventus unsuccessfully tried to sign Nahitan Nandez in the final days of the January window. While previous reports suggested the two clubs failed to come to terms, Cagliari director Stefano Capozzucca stated that the player himself turned down the move.

The executive explained what happened in an interview with L’Unione Sarda: “It is not true that we declined their offer for economic reasons. Nandez was not fully convinced about joining Juventus on loan with option to buy. He considered it ambiguous and would have departed only on a permanent transfer. He felt like the Bianconeri did not want him enough. Moreover, he would have felt constantly under exam with such formula.”

Capozzucca continued: “He believes to be ready to play in a top European club. But he is very happy to be at Cagliari, and we appreciate his attitude. He is one of our strongest players, and he is very ambitious. He never said that he wanted to leave no matter what. Then, it takes two to tango. There have been the right conditions for him to transfer to a big team yet. It surely is not Cagliari’s fault if Nandez did not go to Juventus in January.”

The director stated that the Old Lady was the only possible destination for the midfielder in the recent transfer market window: “Roma never asked us for him, while Napoli did not have the means to sign him.” Inter eyed the Uruguayan international in the past, but they did not make a move either.
