Napoli Ace Seeks to Exit Slump Amid Contract Talks

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia drew his first start of the season against Lazio after missing the opener due to muscle fatigue and coming off the bench in Round Two. He had a challenging summer from the physical standpoint, skipping about two weeks of practice due to a knee contusion.

The Georgian star provided an assist against Sassuolo but hasn’t looked explosive in his first two showings. According to Il Mattino, his agent is in Naples to discuss his new contract, but he has yet to have a formal sit-down with team president Aurelio De Laurentiis, who makes the call on key matters. Instead, he touched base with director Maurizio Micheli.

The parties reportedly reached an agreement in principle before the summer. However, his camp desires to revisit the numbers. Per Corriere dello Sport, Kvaratskhelia is eyeing a pay hike from €1.4M to €5M plus €1M bonuses.

Napoli usually refrain from this kind of renewal, as he’s already tied to the team until 2027. The attacker hasn’t hit the net since last March. He had begun with three goals and one helper in the past campaign.

Our Take on Kvaratshkelia

The Partenopei will probably have to cave at some point since he’s earning peanuts relative to his importance to the team, but they’ll make his representative work for it. In the meantime, they need to get him in peak shape. His swoon has been noticeable and protracted.
