Napoli Agree Deal to Sign Long-Serving Man Utd Midfielder

Manchester United and Napoli have reportedly found a breakthrough in negotiations for Scott McTominay’s switch to Serie A. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Red Devils have accepted a new offer from the Partenopei worth over a whopping €30 million.

The deal is reportedly in the ‘final stages,’ with the Scotland international ready to travel to Naples for his medical checks. It’s been a while since Napoli entered talks with Manchester United for McTominay’s transfer to the Diego Maradona Stadium.

However, the initial bid failed to do the trick. It led Napoli to explore other options. PSV Eindhoven midfielder Jerdy Schouten has emerged as an exciting option for Antonio Conte. But it seems the former Bologna star will not return to Serie A late in the summer.

Napoli are ready to onboard McTominay despite his torrid time at Old Trafford. He had some clutch moments in the 2023/24 season, but that wasn’t enough to earn him a regular starting berth under Erik ten Hag.

Though the Dutchman hasn’t reinforced his midfield department, there is no place for McTominay. The homegrown United star will, therefore, move on. Napoli will offer him a chance to reignite his career.

At 27, McTominay is at his peak powers, and perhaps a change of scenery could help him get back on track. Napoli made room for the Scottish talisman by offloading Jens Cajuste to Premier League newcomers Ipswich Town on a season-long loan.

McTominay will challenge Stanislav Lobotka and Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa for a place in the Napoli starting XI.
