Napoli Assemble 4-Man Shortlist to Replace Fabian Ruiz

Fabian Ruiz will not form part of the Napoli squad next season in all likelihood, with several landing spots circling. According to Calciomercato, the Partenopei are already scouring the market for potential replacements.

Ruiz has generated plenty of interest from the Premier League. Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle United are in the race to take him away from Serie A. But watch out for Juventus, who have recently added the Spaniard to their wishlist.

With only 12 months remaining on his contract at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, the 26-year-old could be available on a cut-price deal this summer. It makes it almost impossible for Napoli to fend off growing interest in the Spanish playmaker.

Ruiz has been an influential figure in Naples since arriving from Real Betis in 2018. So Napoli can ill-afford to let their essential first-team member leave without signing a valuable replacement. It appears that Partenopei have already identified four potential solutions.

The first name on the list is Adrien Tameze of Hellas Verona. The 28-year-old excelled at the Marc’Antonio Bentegodi last season, establishing himself as one of the most consistent midfielders in Serie A.

Another name on Luciano Spalletti’s wishlist is Bologna’s Mattias Svanberg. Widely regarded as one of the hottest midfield prospects in Europe, the 23-year-old has plenty of suitors in Serie A and abroad. Napoli would have to overcome stiff competition from Southampton to take him to southern Italy.

After Cagliari’s relegation to Serie B, it’s become clear Nahitan Nandez won’t be part of the Sardinians’ squad next season. Napoli have joined the Uruguayan’s long-term admirers Inter in the race to throw him a lifeline in Serie A.

Last but not least, Sampdoria talisman Morten Throsby has made it to Spalletti’s shortlist. Yet, the Norwegian’s characteristics differ from Ruiz, so this piece of news should be taken with a grain of salt.
