Napoli Center-Back On The Cusp of Joining Rennes

Napoli outcast Leo Ostigard has reportedly agreed to join Ligue 1 outfit Rennes after falling out of favor at the Diego Maradona Stadium. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the Partenopei are ready to sanction the sale, which would see them earn around €7 million in a transfer fee.
Ostigard joined Napoli from Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer of 2022. However, his career in Serie A has never taken off, even though he enjoyed a decent short-term loan at Genoa in the second half of the 2021/22 season.
Last term, Ostigard made 30 appearances for Napoli across all competitions. But his proneness to silly mistakes and flamboyant nature have seen new manager Antonio Conte deem his surplus to requirements.
Shortly after completing Alessandro Buongiorno’s arrival from Torino, Napoli informed Ostigard he could start searching for a new home. While the Granata recently displayed interest in the Norwegian, he seems close to continuing his career outside Serie A.
Rennes already have a verbal agreement with the player. Ostigard’s price tag shouldn’t be a problem for the French side despite failing to secure European football for 2024/25. They’ve secured funds for the Napoli misfit from several high-profile sales.
Star winger Martin Terrier has joined reigning Bundesliga holders Bayer Leverkusen, while Enzo Le Fee moved to Roma in a transfer worth nearly €25m. Rennes will use part of that money to broker a deal with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis and take Ostigard to France.
