Napoli Close Deal for Brighton and Norway Defensive Talent

Napoli have managed to add yet another defensive reinforcement to their ranks after agreeing the transfer fee for Norwegian defender Leo Ostigard, who is bound to arrive from Brighton & Hove Albion. The English club received several bids for the ex-Genoa man, but the Partneopei have ended up securing his services.

According to Sky, the parties have agreed to a €5M fee plus performance-related bonuses in the range of €3-4M and a percentage of future re-sale. Only the official announcement is missing at this stage, after which the player will land in Italy to complete his medical examination.

Ostigard is formally replacing former Manchester United loanee Axel Tuanzebe in the Napoli defense. The newcomer spent the latter half of last season at Genoa, registering 16 appearances in total. However, the Grifone failed to redeem him after facing relegation to Serie B. The 22-year-old leaves the Seagulls having not appeared even once for them throughout three loan-filled seasons.

In addition, Kalidou Koulibaly‘s departure looks imminent as the saga to sign him intensifies among top European clubs, including Chelsea, Barcelona, Juventus and reportedly even Paris Saint-Germain.

Our Take on Napoli Signing Ostigard

With six months of Serie A experience already under his belt, this is the perfect chance for the youngster to relish continuing to star in one of the biggest leagues in the world. His Premier League experience, along with stints across the continent at Molde, St. Pauli, Coventry City, and Stoke City, will undoubtedly help the Azzurri not only domestically but also in European competitions.
