Napoli Close to Tying Osimhen Down to New Deal

Victor Osimhen is ready to pledge his long-term future to Napoli despite attracting interest from Europe’s big guns and Saudi Arabia’s loaded sides. According to Il Matino (via Tuttomercatoweb), the Nigeria international has agreed to pen a new deal at the Diego Maradona Stadium.

Osimhen’s new deal would reportedly be worth up to €12 million net per season, including add-ons. It would make him the highest-paid Serie A star. But given his contribution to last season’s Scudetto, it’s no wonder Aurelio De Laurentiis wants to reward his talisman with a bumper contract.

Indeed, the 24-year-old striker laid the foundation for Luciano Spalletti’s success last term, clocking up 26 goals in 32 league appearances. Osimhen’s sublime form earned Napoli their first Serie A title in 33 years but also made him one of the most in-demand players in Europe.

Napoli did a stellar job fending off Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United in the summer. However, they have yet to scare off Al-Hilal. The Saudis are persistent in their endeavor to land a box-office signing by the end of August.

After being turned down by Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe, they’ve focused on the most prolific Serie A marksman. But De Laurentiis has taken precautions to keep Osimhen at Napoli.

The new deal will feature two release clauses. Aware of growing interest from Europe’s best sides, Napoli cannot let their most prized asset leave for peanuts. Saudi Arabia’s approach looks equally threatening, hence a €150m termination clause for the wealthy Middle East state.
