Napoli Closer to Manchester United Misfit, Arteta Halts Roma

Napoli have made progress in their attempt to sign Axel Tuanzebe from Manchester United. Aston Villa have reportedly agreed to terminate the loan spell early. He would join the Partenopei with the same formula.

Napoli have upped the initial fee to €400k, but Manchester United want €1M, Gianluca Di Marzio reports. The Italian side might do the deal even without an option to buy. According to Tuttomercatoweb, the Azzurri are confident they will come to terms by the end of the week.

The Partenopei need a defender as they recently sold Kostas Manolas to Olympiacos, while Kalidou Koulibaly will participate in the African Cup of Nations. They cast a wide net, but they have a small budget. They are trying to get a young player on a temporary spell.

Napoli hope to replicate the success they had with André-Frank Zambo Anguissa by bringing in the Manchester United defender. Tuanzebe has appeared in nine matches with Aston Villa this season. He was a fringe player for Red Devils in previous years.

While the Azzurri are nearing the finishing line on a signing from the Premier League, Roma will have to wait a little longer. Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta provided an update on Ainsley Maitland-Niles: “Whatever news we have regarding one of our players, we like to keep it private. For the moment, Ainsley is an Arsenal player, that is all.” Everton are also eyeing him, The Mirror reports. The Giallorossi want him on loan with option to buy.
