Napoli Closest to Ex-Spezia Prodigy Before Arsenal Move

Jakub Kiwior joined Arsenal in a quick January transfer after being pursued by almost all of the top Serie A sides. Neither seriously moved for him in the past window, though. His agent Sasha Baranov commented to TV Play.

“Every important team in Italy but Inter expressed interest. Considering their current situation, Napoli didn’t need to make changes, but they wanted him for the summer. We all saw what happened to Juventus. Milan preferred waiting, and then you know what occurs when a Premier League side comes calling.”

“We thought the kid deserved an important club and, with all due respect, he couldn’t have transferred to Bologna. It’s hard to say no when Arsenal approach a 22-year-old. That may have been the case also if Juventus or another big team inquired, but the Gunners furthered the talks the most.”

Kiwior wasn’t expected to transfer during the winter, although he had been on the radar of major outfits for a long time.

“We didn’t think things would happen so quickly. Honestly, we didn’t believe he would leave in January. We working for a move down the line, assuming we would stay at Spezia until June. Then Arsenal materialized. He didn’t put pressure, it was fine to him if the deal could go through; otherwise, he would have waited.”

Our Take on Kiwior

You can never have enough good players, but Napoli are potentially set for a few years in the back. Juventus needed him the most, but they wouldn’t have been able to sign him in January regardless of their recent sanction.
