Napoli Closing In on Contract Renewal of Headline Performer

Napoli sorted out one of the longest-running transfer sagas of the summer during the week by sending Victor Osimhen to Galatasaray on loan. According to La Repubblica via Tuttonapoli, the club’s next priority is the renewal of standout winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia

The Georgian forward has become a fan favorite at the Diego Maradona Stadium since arriving from Dinamo Batumi two years ago. Though his form plunged after helping Napoli win a long-awaited Scudetto in his first season in Serie A, he remains one of the team’s most valuable pieces.

Kvaratskhelia’s current deal at Napoli expires in 2027. However, as he joined as an unknown entity, the Partenopei refused to hand him a lucrative contract. Despite his significance to Antonio Conte’s side, the 23-year-old is among the club’s lowest earners.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is eager to rectify that injustice, with the parties reportedly on the brink of an agreement. A new deal would tie Kvaratskhelia down to Naples until 2026 and significantly bolster his wages.

His annual earnings would reportedly soar to between €5.5 and 6 million. That’s nothing less than Kvaratskhelia deserves. He was a rare shining light in a disastrous season for Napoli in 2023/24, hitting double digits in Serie A.

Kvaratskhelia was on Paris Saint-Germain’s radar in the summer. Les Parisiens identified the quicksilver winger as an ideal replacement for Kylian Mbappe, who left for Real Madrid. But Napoli went to great lengths to keep hold of their first-team star.
