Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is adamant Victor Osimhen is one step away from penning a new contract at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. In an interview – relayed by Calciomercato – the controversial movie producer commented on the Nigerian’s contractual situation and delivered an update on Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s contract renewal.
Osimhen and Kvaratskhelia were the protagonists of Partenopei’s long-overdue Scudetto success last term. However, there have been some troubles in paradise since. Napoli came close to tarnishing their relationship with the Nigerian following the leakage of a mockery video of him on social media.
However, the parties seem to have managed to put aside their differences, with an agreement over a new contract on the horizon. That’s at least how De Laurentiis wants the public to perceive Osimhen’s current contractual situation.
“For Osimhen, we’re at the signature that has been pending since the summer,” the Napoli bigwig said. Following a lengthy sell on the sidelines, the sought-after striker has returned to the fold. Now that he’s back, he’s ready to put pen to paper on a new deal. His current one runs out in less than two years, hence the club’s utmost effort to get things done quickly.
As for the Georgian, he cut a frustrated figure during Rudi Garcia’s tenure. The 22-year-old was a shadow of his former self under the ex-Roma manager. But the situation has changed in his favor. Walter Mazzarri’s appointment should turn his fortunes around and help the illustrious winger get back on track.
Unlike Osimhen, ‘Kvaradona’ still has four more years left to run on his contract at Napoli.
“What does he have to do with it, he still has four years left… You always cry over a dead person who isn’t there.”
De Laurentiis’ nervous reaction might suggest the club’s bid to tie Kvaratskhelia down to a new contract is not going according to plan.
