Napoli Confirm Osimhen Is Out of Action for Three Months

Napoli have confirmed that Victor Osimhen has undergone operation on his cheekbone and eye socket, and will return to action after three months.

The Nigerian sustained facial injuries following a nasty collision with Inter’s Milan Skriniar last weekend and he needed assistance from the medical staff while walking off the pitch.

A statement on Napoli’s official website read: “On Tuesday morning, Victor Osimhen was operated on his cheekbone and eye socket by Gianpaolo Tartaro, who was assisted by Dr Mario Santagata with Dr Raffaele Canonico also present.

“Titanium plates and screws were used in the operation. The player is doing well and will remain under observation for the next few days. Osimhen is expected to return to action in three months.”

The striker has been in very good form for Napoli this season, scoring nine goals while providing two assists in 14 appearances across all competitions so far. His absence is a major blow for Napoli, who are currently at the top of the Serie A table.

Osimhen will be missing some very important fixtures against Lazio, Inter, Atalanta, and Milan. The facial injuries will rule him out of the upcoming AFCON as well, so it is a massive blow for Nigeria as well.

With the 22-year-old out for a long time, Dries Mertens and Andrea Petagna will be receiving more starts in the forthcoming fixtures, starting from tomorrow’s match against Spartak Moscow.
