Napoli Could Make a Run at Juventus Midfield Talent

Napoli have very little depth in the midfield and are contemplating going after Enzo Barrenechea, who will be back at Juventus following a solid loan spell at Frosinone. He was a day-one starter and dependable all season long.

According to Mattia Moretto (via SOSFanta), the Argentine is particularly appreciated by new Partenopei director Giovanni Manna. He contributed to bringing him to Italy and his growth as head of the Bianconeri’s Next Gen squad in previous years.

It remains to be determined whether Juventus will be open for business concerning Barrenechea as recent reports, before Napoli came into the picture, suggested he could stay put under Thiago Motta. Moreover, they wouldn’t have trouble finding a taker if they wanted to loan him out again.

The 23-year-old has 39 Serie A appearances under his belt and 49 with the Old Lady’s second squad. He joined from Sion in a €5M move back in 2020. He’s under contract for two more years.

The Azzurri will bid farewell to Piotr Zielinski and Diego Demme, who will leave on free transfers. They only have Jens Cajuste and returning loanees Micheal Folorunsho and Gianluca Gaetano behind starters Stanislav Lobotka and Frank Anguissa. However, the two youngsters are more offensive-minded.

Our Take on Napoli and Barrenechea

Lobotka is a workhorse, but it’s better to be safe and have some depth even though they won’t play in the cups. Plus, the two would easily be able to feature together. It’d be a lot easier to arrange a swap involving him or other Juventus youngsters, with Giovanni Di Lorenzo heading to Turin, than with Federico Chiesa.
