Napoli Director Again Downplays Chatter About Juventus

Juventus are in the hunt for a new sporting director, as the suspension against Federico Cherubini was upheld in the recent appeal, and Cristiano Giuntoli is one of their top options. The exec addressed the buzz before Sunday’s clash (via DAZN).

“They are just journalistic rumors. I have a year on my contract with Napoli. There’s nothing new.”

The Azzurri mastermind dished on Luciano Spalletti.

“We always said he would stay. It’s not a matter of now, before, or after. He’s super-confirmed. That’s not anything newsworthy.”

According to Il Mattino, Juventus aren’t the only one keen on Giuntoli. Tottenham are eyeing him as well after Fabio Paratici stepped down. He too faces a lengthy ban stemming from the capital gain trial. However, the official is on good terms with Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis. He shouldn’t go anywhere next summer.

Per TuttoSport, the Bianconeri have inquired about a few options, including Lazio’s Igli Tare, Sassuolo’s Giovanni Rossi, Atletico Madrid’s Andrea Berta, and Milan’s Frederic Massara. However, most of them are under contract with their respective teams for one or more seasons. Only the Biancocelesti director has an expiring deal.

Our Take on Giuntoli and Juventus

It’s only right to target the best possible candidates. The Bianconeri will probably commence a multi-year rebuild where they will tighten the belt on the transfer market regardless of their legal troubles. That doesn’t necessarily mean they won’t be competitive, as Napoli proved in this campaign. However, they’ll need to nail their moves. Since the top candidates are free agents in 2024, they may lean on their current structure for a year and onboard somebody new afterward, especially if they feel like they can secure a high-profile name.
