Napoli Director Puts Cristiano Ronaldo Buzz to Rest

Napoli sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli doesn’t expect any coup de theatre on deadline day regarding Cristiano Ronaldo and Keylor Navas. The executive outright denied any serious approach for the Portuguese star. His agent Jorge Mendes reportedly tried to bring him back to Italy through a blockbuster deal involving Victor Osimhen.

The official talked to DAZN before the draw against Lecce (via Calciomercato).

“Cristiano Ronaldo is an extraordinary player, and we can only talk highly of him, but there was nothing true about the rumors linking him to Napoli. We read many things on the papers, but there was never anything concrete.”

Napoli are tracking Navas, but the talks with PSG about his contract termination are lagging. Giuntoli added on such topic.

“You can always improve though hard work. The transfer market is just a part of the equation. Our coach is very capable, and we are confident we can grow some more. We already have two high-level goalies. There’s just one day level and there are 99 percent chances we will stay as is.”

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Azzurri have an agreement in place with the Costa Rican veteran on a two-year deal. On the other hand, he and PSG are about €10M apart on his severance package. They will negotiate until late, but the gap might be too wide to close it in the short amount of time left.

Manchester United coach Erik Ten Hag shut the door on Cristiano Ronaldo leaving in general, whereas Napoli maintained a small hope for a loan spell, with the Red Devils paying most of his salary.
