Napoli exec Mauro Meluso addressed the rumors about other clubs being in the lead to capture Piotr Zielinski in his remarks to Sky before the clash with Real Madrid on Wednesday.
“It’s strange because we have been discussing with him for a while, and he expressed his desire to stay, should we reach an economic agreement, obviously. It’s paradoxical because the rules forbid even approaching a player under contract with another team. I don’t think there’s much to comment on. It’s odd that it hasn’t been stressed that it’d be unlawful. Coming to terms with a player whose contract expires in 2024 would be a grave offense. I believe it’s unfounded. The authorities should check it out.”
Zielinski subbed off early against Real Madrid due to a minor injury. He updated on his fitness to Sportitalia.
“I’m relatively fine. I picked up a knock, so we’ll see how I feel tomorrow. It’ll surely hurt more. The coach asks us to attack from the start, and we’re ameliorating that. We have room for improvement. We’ll have many satisfactions and earn a lot of points if we get better there. I think we had a good game overall and did better than the opponents in some stretches. We could have obtained something more out of this match.”
