Napoli Draw Up Three-Man Shortlist to Replace Osimhen

Victor Osimhen’s future at Napoli has been one of the major talking points in Serie A these past few weeks. The Nigeria international was a step away from penning a new contract at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, but that’s remote memory.

Since Napoli released the controversial video that made Osimhen and his entourage furious, the relationship between the club and their standout striker has become complicated. Even though it was an unintentional mistake from Partenopei, it could prove the beginning of the end between the 24-year-old and the reigning Scudetto holders.

Osimhen was one of the most in-demand frontmen during the summer transfer window. However, Napoli chief Aurelio De Laurentiis went above and beyond to fend off his suitors. It could all go in vain, with last season’s Capocannoniere award winner now hellbent on severing ties with the Italians.

Preparing for the worst-case scenario, Napoli have pieced together a list of three potential replacements. According to Calciomercato, Arsenal star Gabriel Jesus has emerged as the most appreciated profile. Despite joining the Gunners only last summer, the Brazilian forward could leave London after tumbling down the pecking order.

Atletico Madrid center-forward Alvaro Morata is another high-profile name considered by Napoli. The Spaniard is no stranger to Serie A, having spent four years in Italy across two spells at Juventus. It could play into the 30-year-old’s hands, but his age might be an issue.

Jonathan David has also landed on De Laurentiis’ wishlist. It’s believed Napoli could rival Milan for the Lille standout performer’s signature.
