Napoli Earmark Granada Shotstopper to Succeed Meret and Ospina

Goalkeeper Alex Meret played a significant part in Napoli’s 3-2 defeat at the hands of Empoli at the Stadio Carlo Castellani at the weekend, handin the hosts’ second comeback goal on a platter to Inter loanee Andrea Pinamonti, before the striker went on to steal all three points off the Partenopei.

With that howler, Luciano Spalletti’s side are reportedly keen on offloading the Italian shotstopper, who was already touted to leave Napoli before their Empoli heartbreak. His contract that expires in June 2023 is not expected to be renewed and instead the southern giants are in line for a replacement between the posts despite having David Ospina in their ranks.

According to Il Mattino (via TuttoNapoli), 23-year-old Granada keeper Luis Maximiano is in the sights of the Partenopei to become the guardian between the posts. The Portuguese youngster has already been scouted by Napoli representatives and is expected to cost between €12m to €16m.

First contacts have already been established but Napoli are still evaluating their choices.

Maximiano emerged from the youth ranks of Sporting CP and moved to Granada for €4.5m in the summer of 2021.
