Napoli Earmark Real Madrid Talent to Bolster Defense

Napoli plot to sign more than one defender and have placed Real Madrid’s Rafa Marin on their shortlist. The Partenopei are mounting an all-out pressing for Torino’s Alessandro Buongiorno but require multiple additions in the back, Sky informs.

The Azzurri tabled their offer to bring in Mario Hermoso on a free. However, their pursuit has slowed down over the demands on wages, signing bonus, and commissions. He and his entourage are biding time and welcoming proposals since he’s a free agent. The talks are on standby for now.

Napoli appear closer to Rafa Marin than to the veteran at this stage. Antonio Conte appreciates his skillset.  He’s athletic and has previous experience in a three-man line. He starred on loan at Getafe in the most recent campaign, recording 33 appearances.

The 22-year-old grew up in Real Madrid’s academy, playing 69 times with the Castilla team but never with the first one. He has seven caps with Spain. As for Buongiorno, the Partenopei keep making incremental progress, but Torino aren’t resigned to losing him just yet. The bid will have to be very conspicuous.

Our Take on Napoli and Rafa Marin

It would have been surprising if one of their negotiations proceeded super quickly and without a hitch, and in fact, it didn’t. If they went for a youngster instead of Hermoso, it’d mean they are maintaining a long-term approach, which they should, rather than necessarily putting together an instant team that would fit Conte’s needs right away.
