Napoli Eye ‘Gladbach Midfielder amid Fabian Ruiz Uncertainty

Napoli are keeping tabs on a Borussia Moenchengladbach midfielder, but not Denis Zakaria like Juventus and Roma. The Partenopei are tracking Florian Neuhaus, who has blossomed over the last couple of seasons. They have him atop of their list of targets should somebody leave next summer, Tuttomercatoweb reports.

Neuhaus has been a staple of the German club since 2018 after a loan spell at Dusseldorf. He has posted 18 goals and 20 assists in 129 appearances. He has displayed interesting versatility, as he can also feature in more offensive positions. The 24-year-old has collected nine caps with Germany since October 2020, scoring twice.

Napoli will continue to scout him for the future in case they will be forced to make some changes to their midfield. In particular, Fabian Ruiz’s contract expires in 2023. The extension talks have been stalling for a while. The Spaniard is having a bounce-back campaign, which has also affected his demands. He has already hit the net four times, always from outside the box, a record across Europe.

He and the team are on rumored polar terms on the new deal, and there have been no recent contacts. According to La Repubblica, Napoli would have quickly sold him if they received a good offer last summer. It did not happen, and the midfielder has been revitalized under Luciano Spalletti. He has never lacked suitors, in particular in Spain, but the Partenopei always set very lofty price tags. Real Madrid and his former coach Carlo Ancelotti have shown some interest, Calciomercato.com reports.
