It’s a busy day for Napoli, which announced Giovanni Simeone, while Tanguy Ndombélé and Giacomo Raspadori took the medicals for them in Rome. The Azzurri reached agreement with Tottenham and Sassuolo after long negotiations.
As per Alfredo Pedullà, the midfielder will join on a €500k season-long loan with a €30M option to buy. He will try to bounce back after failing to live up to his price tag in London. The newcomer will take Fabian Ruiz’s spot in the midfield. The Spaniard will either move to PSG or be frozen out.

Like Ndombélé, Raspadori is transferring to Napoli on an initial loan, but with an obligation to acquire him permanently in 2023. The Partenopei will pay €5M right away, €25M in a year plus €5M potential add-ons. The bonuses hinge on how many times they will qualify for the Champions League over the next five years and on the striker’s production. He will earn €2.5M annually.
A Sassuolo youth product, the youngster started seeing minutes in Serie A in 2019/2020. He was part of the Italy squad in Euro 2020. He is coming off his best season to date, where he hit the net ten times and set up six teammates.
Our Take on Napoli Signing Ndombélé and Raspadori
It’s nice to see the Partenopei finally going on the attack in this window after a plethora of early hits. The only quibble is that Luciano Spalletti has been working on 4-3-3, while these acquisitions point to 4-2-3-1. A clear plan from the get-go would have been ideal, but it shouldn’t be a major issue. Time will tell whether Ndombélé will pan out like André-Frank Zambo Anguissa or flame out like Tiemoué Bakayoko, because his option to buy is really robust.
