Napoli Finally Reopen Extention Talks with Star after Major Tension

For the first time in a few months, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis met with Lorenzo Insigne’s agent Vincenzo Pisacane. The two had their last summit at the beginning of the summer. However, they were in polar positions on the contract extension. The current deal of the attacker expires in June 2022.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, there is more serenity between the parties now. They will convene again in the next few days. The chairman put a richer salary on the table compared to his previous offers. He wanted Insigne to take a sizeable pay cut in the not-so-distant past. Instead, he proposed to maintain the same wages yesterday.

The Napoli captain earns €4.7M and is looking for a raise, given it could be his last profitable contract. The chairman and his entourage have taken a step forward, but they still need to negotiate to reach an agreement.

Before the Spartak Moscow game, the Italian international had declared: “I am not thinking much about the extension. I would not have fun if I did, and my performances would reflect it. The president and my agent met and chatted. I am calm, and I am focused on this season.”

Sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli touched on the topic as well: “We are in talks with his representative. The discussion was very relaxed, and we remain confident, although we are concentrated on the games. We all want to do what is best for Napoli, and then we will see what happens in the future.”
