Napoli Getting Serious About Signing Milan Outcast

Milan seem destined to make big bucks from Alexis Saelemaekers’ departure, with Napoli joining several Premier League clubs in the race to sign the Belgian winger. According to TMW, the versatile forward’s loan spell at Bologna last season ‘impressed’ Antonio Conte, who’s now looking to offer him a fresh start in Naples.

Saelemaekers was a rare shining light in Paulo Fonseca’s first game in charge of Milan as Rapid Wien held the Rossoneri to a 1-1 draw on Saturday. The 25-year-old delivered an outstanding off-the-bench performance in the opening summer friendly. However, his career at San Siro is seemingly drawing to an end.

After Leicester City tabled a substantial bid to take the former Anderlecht starlet to the Premier League, Milan have increased their asking price to €20 million. That’s five times the figure they splashed out to lure him away from his homeland in January 2020. As it turns out, Bologna’s decision not to trigger a buyout clause was a blessing.

Milan can now earn a sizeable amount for their outcast. In addition to Leicester, Nottingham Forest and Ipswich Town have contacted the Rossoneri to gather information about Saelemaekers. But watch out for Napoli. Conte admires the player’s versatility and tactical intelligence and wants to make him part of his project at the Diego Maradona Stadium.

There’s no doubt Milan chiefs are rubbing their hands. Last summer, Saelemaekers was a burden, but after a brilliant stint at Bologna, he’s become a sought-after prospect.
