Napoli Go Back to the Well to Find a New Center-Back

Napoli haven’t been able to properly replace Kim Min-Jae, and they could bring in a new center-back in January to plug the hole. While they have been tipped to add a left-back, Mario Rui will return soon and Mathias Olivera should be ready by mid-January. Alessandro Zanoli did fine versus Juventus in that role, while Natan and Juan Jesus have been passable, Il Mattino informs (via OneFootball).

Instead, the Partenopei have been far from sturdy in the middle of the rearguard. They acquired the Brazilian prospect to succeed their ace, but the whole backline has struggled. They are considering more established names.

Napoli have been offered Marc Guehi, who stars for Crystal Palace and the English national team. His team acquired him for €23M from Chelsea two years ago. The Partenopei targeted Max Kilman last summer, who turned out to be too expensive. They are still keen on him, but he has penned a new contract with Wolverhampton since.

The Azzurri have also been proposed Jerome Boateng, who’s a free agent, but they aren’t interested. They have Feyenoord’s David Hancko or Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba on their radar instead.

Our Take on the Napoli Plans

They didn’t splurge for Natan, so purchasing another center-back would sting more in terms of pride than financially. Still, it’d be unusual for them to give up on somebody, relatively speaking, so soon. He hasn’t landed in the right environment for him to flourish quickly. They’ll likely just be patient. All the reported options are very expensive.
