Napoli in Advanced Talks to Orchestrate Goalkeeper Swap

Napoli will likely have a different backup goalkeeper in the second half of the season, as Salvatore Sirigu has asked out. The Partenopei are mulling a couple of swaps to bring in his replacement without having to look elsewhere.

According to Alfredo Pedullà, the veteran expected to have a chance this season, which didn’t happen since Alex Meret has played every game. He would like to join his boyhood club Cagliari, but they already have a solid starter in Boris Radunovic.

Per Sky, Napoli and Fiorentina are discussing trading Sirigu and Pierluigi Gollini. The latter is on loan from Atalanta. The alternative would be a swap with Lorient involving Vito Mannone.

The Azzurri have opened talks with La Dea to discuss the formula. The former Spurs backup would join on a temporary spell at first, at most with an option to buy, Corriere dello Sport reports. Per Pedullà, both shot-stoppers want to move and would accept the destinations, even though they wouldn’t start at their respective new clubs.

Our Take on Napoli and Their Deputy Goalkeeper

Meret has been so reliable that it’d be a lateral and secondary move if everything goes well. It’s odd that Sirigu thought he could really compete for the starting job. At this point in his career, he could do it just in a  minnow. Mannone would be a more logical option for the role, but the trade with Gollini would solve the issues of both clubs and players, and perhaps allow the Azzurri to be set at the position for a few years.
