Napoli Eye January Move for Highly-Rated Liverpool Target

Fluminense midfielder André Trindade da Costa Neto, better known as just André, is drawing attention from Europe’s top guns after helping the Brazilians win the Copa Libertadores for the first time in their history. Fluminense president Mario Bittencourt, earlier in the summer, confirmed Liverpool were turned down in the transfer window, and the emergence of the Scudetto winners in the race will only complicate things further for the Reds.

As per Il Roma journalist Giovanni Scotto, Napoli will intervene in the January transfer market, seeking to upset Liverpool and other interested suitors (via TuttoNapoli). According to the source, he could arrive in place of Diego Demme or perhaps even Piotr Zielinski if the Pole ends up moving, which is unlikely to happen.

Liverpool are frontrunners though, given they lost Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to Saudi Arabia over the summer. Chief Bittencourt recently commented on the Reds’ summer efforts to get André.

Liverpool’s chief executive (Billy Hogan) contacted me directly. I said: ‘My friend, I don’t sell players now and I don’t deliver them now. If you want to buy now, and only get the player in January, we can start talking. Or if you want to wait until December, we can talk in December.” (via ESPN Brasil)

With the Copa Libertadores now in the bag, Fluminense could perhaps be ready to hear offers for André, who reportedly has a gentleman’s agreement to stay put at the Rio De Janeiro-based club until the end of the season. André, 22, is valued at around the €20M mark, but according to Fabrizio Romano, his value could rise up to €30-40M.
