Napoli Latest Serie A Team Linked to Tottenham Reject

Napoli will need to replenish the midfield if Fabian Ruiz does join PSG, and they have expressed interest in Tanguy Ndombélé. The Frenchman is back at Tottenham after a loan spell at Olympique Lyonnais.

As per Goal, the Partenopei are mulling the same formula they used for André-Franck Zambo Anguissa last year, a loan with option to buy. It worked wonders for the former Fulham man. Though, the 25-year-old has been on a clear downward trajectory in recent seasons. The Spurs signed for €60M in 2019, but he failed to live up to expectations.

On top of Napoli, Ndombélé has been offered to Roma, in the package for Nicolò Zaniolo, and Milan. He regained a regular role after his return to Lyon. He featured in 15 matches, scoring once and providing 2 assists, from January on.

It’s not the first time the French midfielder has been linked to a Serie A move. Fabio Paratici tried to bring him to Juventus in 2019, but Tottenham blew the competition out of the water with a huge offer. Inter inquired about him the following season. They unsuccessfully tried to set up a swap with Milan Skriniar, who had initially struggled to adapt to a three-man defense under Antonio Conte. Roma had touched base last January before he headed back to Ligue 1.

Our Take on Napoli Eyeing Ndombélé

With the Azzurri poised to spend big on Giacomo Raspadori, they will probably not splurge for a midfielder too. This would be a calculated risk with a potentially high reward if they get lucky. Plus, they already have two solid starters, Anguissa and Stanislav Lobotka, in 4-2-3-1, so they can roll the dice on somebody who isn’t a sure thing.
