Napoli Maintain Perfect Serie A Season Start After Sampdoria Thrashing

Having entered the clash with only one loss in their last 20 Serie A away meetings in Genoa against Sampdoria, Napoli looked like a rejuvenated side under manager Luciano Spalletti.

The Partenopei have undergone a transformation, winning all five matches in the league – the only 100% record so far and on the top, just ahead of Inter and Milan.

Enroute their 4-0 win over Il Doria, the club have set a record of winning their first five Serie A matches only for the third time in history and for the first time since the 2017/18 season.

Before that, the Partneopei, led by Argentine magician Diego Maradona and Brazilian forward Careca, established the record for the first time in the 1987/88 season. The same season they succumbed to Milan in the Scudetto race, falling three points behind at the end and failing to defend the club’s inaugural championship victory the previous season.

With the win over Sampdoria, the club have also managed to score 4+ goals in successive Serie A matches for the third time in the competition, after January 2016 and May 2017.

Napoli’s previous match was a 4-0 thrashing of Udinese at the Stadio Friuli.
