Napoli Make Initial Contact with Luzern for Swiss Prodigy

Apart from two exciting midfield talents that Napoli were earlier reported to be eyeing – Khephren Thuram and Lazar Samardzic – there is yet another name the club are scouting. Sporting director Cristian Giuntoli has identified FC Luzern youth product Ardon Jashari as the next target for the Partenopei, according to Corriere del Mezzogiorno (via TuttoNapoli).

Jashari plays as a central midfielder, in a typical number six role for Luzern. The 20-year-old was only just promoted – back in July 2020 in a 2-1 Swiss Super League win over FC Zurich – from the club academy. His drastic growth over the course of the past two years also prompted Switzerland coach Murat Yakin to call him up for the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2022. Jashari’s addition to the 26-man squad makes him the second youngest player in the national side, after Fabian Rieder of BSC Young Boys.

Contacts have already been established between Napoli and Luzern for a potential move in the winter transfer window. However, they will be joined by Bundesiga outfit VfL Wolfsburg in the race for the midfielder’s signature.

The prospect of Napoli trailing 20-year-old Jashari arrives following the profitable investment made in Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who is currently lighting up the scene in Serie A.
