Shortly after rumors of a ‘positive’ meeting between Napoli and Giovanni Di Lorenzo’s representatives hit the surface, Mario Giuffredi has laughed off optimistic speculation. In an interview with Sky Sport Italia, the right-back’s agent dismissed talks about an improvement in Di Lorenzo’s case.
“We talked about [Michael] Folorunsho and almost found an agreement. I prefer not to talk about Di Lorenzo because he is busy with the European Championship and wants to be calm – the club knows my thoughts,” the Napoli captain’s entourage said, as quoted by Gianluca Di Marzio.
Di Lorenzo is seemingly determined to halt his five-year association with Napoli this summer. Away on international duty with Italy, the 30-year-old bounced back from a dismal start to Euro 2024, helping Luciano Spalletti’s side reach the knockout stages with a rock-solid performance in a 1-1 draw against Croatia on Monday.
While Di Lorenzo’s mind is set, Napoli haven’t lost hope of losing their first-team stalwart. New manager Antonio Conte is determined to convince the former Empoli defender to change his mind despite recently receiving a disturbing call from the player, who reiterated his desire to leave.
In addition to Di Lorenzo, Napoli are sweating over Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s future. Like his clubmate, the Georgia international looks poised to cut ties with the Partenopei in the coming months, particularly in light of Paris Saint-Germain’s interest in taking him to the Parc des Princes.
But despite their wish to embark on new challenges elsewhere, Napoli are still unwilling to let them go.
