Napoli return to their Serie A duties after the international break as they head to the Unipol Domus to meet Cagliari on Sunday evening. Antonio Conte spoke to the press in the build-up to the game, discussing several topics, including late summer signings Billy Gilmour and Scott McTominay.
The Scottish midfield duo could make their first appearances for Napoli tonight, with Conte’s side looking to pick up where they left off before the international break. The Partenopei followed up a 3-0 thrashing of Bologna with a come-from-behind 2-1 triumph against Parma.
Conte can only hope the two-week hiatus hasn’t stifled his team’s momentum as Napoli bid to return to a top-four picture in Serie A following an embarrassing 2023/24 season. He’ll need all the help he can get to achieve his goals.
The ex-Inter boss sang praise on McTominay and Gilmour ahead of Sunday’s trip to Sardinia, with Napoli seeking their first away win of the season.
“I received excellent impressions. They are two serious guys, as I had been able to observe during my experience in the Premier League having faced them as opponents,” the Napoli manager said, as reported by Gianluca Di Marzio. “They are two profiles that bring competition and raise the level.
“There are no pre-established places or provincial reasoning in the squad. There must be healthy competition even in the locker room to achieve something important,” Conte added. “ I repeat, we must not be provincial. You need to think game by game.“
