Napoli Newcomer Kvaratskhelia Could Have Joined Juventus

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia commented on his imminent move to Napoli in an interview, and his agent added that he could have arrived in Serie A on a different side in the not-so-distant past.

The winger spoke with Nobel Arustmyan (via Il Mattino).

“I talked with Luciano Spalletti, who said that he wanted to work with him, and I reciprocated his thought. I decided to join after that chat. He explained to me how Serie A works and I feel ready for such a big jump. I do not know whether I will wear no.77 or 18, surely the no.10 is untouchable because it belongs to Diego Armando Maradona. I would like to play with Kalidou Koulibaly, as he is a great footballer. Kakhaber Kaladze and Aleksey Miranchuk gave me some advice as well.”

The representative of Kvaratskhelia revealed that he could have transferred to Juventus instead of Napoli.

“We had a preliminary agreement with them when Fabio Paratici was the director, but then he went to Tottenham. He would have moved to Turin if that did not happen. Milan asked for information too, but the Azzurri moved more decisively. We had offers from Premier League sides as well, but we were not interested in loans.”

The attacker revisited his departure from Rubin Kazan.

“When the war started, I feared for my family. I discussed it with my teammates, who told me to choose what was best for me. Life is the most important thing and I could not stay in Russia. I honored my team until the end because they did a lot for me. It was not easy to pick my next destination. The strongest sides are not always the right ones when it comes to your future.”
