The Napoli hierarchy has no doubts about Rudi Garcia despite the dissatisfactory start of the season. Director Maurizio Meluso spoke to Mediaset and Sky before the win over Sporting Braga in the Champions League (via Fantacalcio).
“The squad feels the burden of responsibility after a clear victory last season. There’s no complacency. We chose the coach because he follows some of Luciano Spalletti’s tactical choices, despite having different methods. As of today, we’re moderately satisfied.”
Meluso was quizzed about Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratshkelia’s renewals that didn’t get finalized.
“I don’t think they impact their performances. They are professionals, so contracts don’t affect their showings. The roster is the same as last season. The new gaffer is bringing something different but with a similar project.”
“The Georgian had a normal behavior versus Genoa. Players often don’t like to get subbed off. There’s no problem whatsoever. He’s an extraordinary kid, like the rest of the group. The nervousness came from the fact that we didn’t do well in that match. Instead, there were great determination and attention to the collective in the previous ones. I’m sure the guys will go back to that soon enough.”
Meluso believes Napoli have been under too much scrutiny.
“The criticism has been excessive. We took a step back against Genoa, but we have many international-caliber players. I’m confident we will bounce back.”
