Napoli Owner Shoots Down Buzz About Coaching Change

Aurelio De Laurentiis commented on the recent events at Napoli and the future of Rudi Garcia ahead of the resumption of Serie A (via Mediaset).

“I’ve read all sorts of things after the Fiorentina game. You can have doubts in life, and, if there were some errors, I take full responsibility. But from there to changing the coach… It’s always traumatic. Moreover, there aren’t many managers that use 4-3-3 with a high defensive line like Luciano Spalletti and Maurizio Sarri.”

De Laurentiis shied away from the Antonio Conte chatter.

“I don’t want questions about him. They’d be a disturbance. I vacationed with him and his family in the Maldives a few years ago. We’ve been in touch aver since. But I talk routinely also with my previous gaffers. The rest is just gossip that aims at destroying who’s in charge now and bothers me.”

De Laurentiis weighed in on the moment of the team.

“I had many commitments, but I’m back now and got closer to the squad to bring serenity. It was my fault beforehand. This will be the case until the end of the season. We won with a 16-point advantage last year, but who says we have to repeat? We surely hope so, but there’s no guarantee. We’re Napoli, and we have qualified for Europe for 15 years in a row. We can solve this situation on our own. The choices must be made serenely and without haste.”
