Victor Osimhen is routinely linked to Premier League powerhouses considering his stellar performances, but Napoli have no intention of partying ways with him. President Aurelio De Laurentiis quieted the rumors to Bild (via Calciomercato).
“Victor is not for sale. Our players are in high demand, but we don’t need to cash in on anybody. We don’t have any debts.”
The owner looked ahead to the Champions League clashes with Eintracht Frankfurt.
“At first, I felt like it wasn’t a tough draw, but that’s not really the case. They are competing for the Bundesliga title. We must not consider ourselves superior. Barcelona did that against them last year, and they got eliminated.”
According to Il Mattino (via SportMediaset), Manchester United offered €100M for Osimhen in January to no avail. They will likely try again in the summer since they settled with a short-term addition, Wout Weghorst, after partying ways with Cristiano Ronaldo.
Jorge Mendes tried to orchestrate a blockbuster swap between the two strikers in the summer, which obviously didn’t go through. The Red Devils will continue their hunt for a top-notch center-forward at the end of the season.
Our Take on Osimhen
The links are inevitable given his success. However, he’s under contract until 2025. His agents will predictably ask for a raise fairly soon, but the key summer won’t be the upcoming one, but rather 2024. De Laurentiis generally holds on to his champions for as long as he possibly can contract-wise, even at the cost of missing out on large fees, as it happened with Kalidou Koulibaly.
