Napoli Patron Alludes to Possible Kvaratskhelia Exit

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis didn’t hide the issues in the negotiation with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and took it one step further, saying that it wouldn’t be a shock if he departed. He addressed the talks to renew the contract of the star to Sky over the weekend (via MSN).

“The players will stay here as long as we think that’s right. There have been other instances in the past, and we came to terms with them. The will of footballers is important, but the same thing is also true for the club.”

According to Il Mattino, the patron had similar remarks speaking about Edinson Cavani, Gonzalo Higuain, and Maurizio Sarri in the past. De Laurentiis is pleased with how Napoli started the season, as he told Corriere dello Sport.

“We’re back to challenging the overbearing power of the North. We’re top of the table and want to fight until the end to give our fans joy and satisfaction. Antonio Conte is a unique leader. I like a lot how he can adapt his squad depending on the opponent and the phase of the game.”

De Laurentiis shrugged off the terrible 2023/2024 season.

“We were the only Serie A team that qualified for a European competition for 14 straight years beforehand. In the end, you can’t win them all. There can always be an outlier and a bump in the road. Nobody has a magic wand.”

De Laurentiis was quizzed about Victor Osimhen, who’s going like gangbusters with Galatasaray.

“That’s good, as when we sign players, we valorize them too.”
