Napoli Player Ratings vs Milan: Simeone Can’t Fill Osimhen’s Shoes

In one of the biggest clashes of Serie A Round 24, Milan shattered a decade-long curse by beating Napoli at home for the first time since 2014. Although the visitors had a promising start, it was the hosts who took the lead through Theo Hernandez in the 25th minute. Walter Mazzarri tried to mix things up by altering the formation in the second half, but the result remained intact. So here are our player ratings for Napoli who suffered a 0-1 defeat at the hands of Milan, thus extending their miserable away run.

Napoli (3-5-1-1)

Pierluigi Gollini – 6

The former Spurs goalkeeper produced two good stops on Rafael Leao and Olivier Giroud, but was slightly out of position on the goal.

Leo Ostigard – 5.5

The Norwegian defender was always going to endure a tough evening against Rafael Leao and Theo. Although he didn’t truly embarrass himself, it just wasn’t his most convincing display. He proved to be the half-time sacrificial lamb when Mazzarri decided to switch back to 4-3-3 by introducing Politano.

Amir Rrahmani – 6

A solid display in defense from the Kosovan who also showcased decent distribution skills from the back

Juan Jesus – 6.5

The Brazilian veteran prevailed in his personal duel against Giroud. Didn’t deserve to end up on the losing side.

Giovanni Di Lorenzo – 5.5

The Napoli captain darted forward repeatedly while playing at wingback, but couldn’t deliver dangerous crosses to the box.

André-Frank Zambo Anguissa – 6

An influential display from the Cameroonian who was at times too physical in his altercations with his opponents. But always made himself available for his teammates and did well between the lines.

Stanislav Lobotka – 5.5

A mixed bag from the Slovakian who displayed glimpses of his brilliant performances from last season while pulling the strings in the middle of the park in the early going. However, he struggled to deal with Ruben Loftus-cheek’s physicality and failed to track Theo’s run on the goal.

Piotr Zielinski – 5.5

The former Udinese star still can’t find feet this season. Another less than influential display that saw him drift out of the match.

Pasquale Mazzocchi – 6

An improved outing from the Napoli January signing who found mild success on the left flank and delivered some inviting passes to the box.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia – 6

Last season’s Serie A MVP started the match in a free role and created a wonderful chance for Simeone. However, his impact dwindled as the match progressed and was often lost in the traffic.

Giovanni Simeone – 5

The Argentine squandered a golden chance in the first half, and then spent the rest of his outing struggling against Simon Kjaer. Had another crack at goal after stealing possession but his wide shot proved to be his last touch before making way for Raspadori.

Substitutes

Matteo Politano – 6

The winger shook things up following his introduction and threatened Mike Maignan’s goal with a lovely curler that went just wide, but ultimately couldn’t drag Napoli back to the match.

Giacomo Raspadori – 5.5

The former Sassuolo man worked hard but found little joy against Milan’s packed defenses.

Jesper Lindstrom – 6.5

A promising cameo from the Dane who became his side’s ultimate source of danger in the final minutes. Almost prompted an equalizer when Simic directed his cross towards the post.

Mathias Olivera – 5.5

The Uruguayan offered significantly less than Mazzocchi in the attacking phase.

Cyril Ngonge – N/A
