Napoli Ponder Multiple Belgian Pro League Prospects

Napoli will focus on the midfield after fixing their defense and have set sights on Belgium to address the role. They have shortlisted Jurgen Ekkelenkamp and Mario Stroeykens in particular, La Gazzetta dello Sport relays (via Fantacalcio).

The former stars for Antwerp and has recorded 11 goals and 11 assists in the last two seasons. He’s an Ajax product and was signed for €5M from Hertha Berlin in 2022. He has 21 caps with the Netherlands U-21, with which he has hit the net 7 times. Instead, the 19-year-old Belgian talent has spent the entirety of his career at Anderlecht. Since becoming a regular for the first team, he has bagged 11 goals and set up 8 teammates in 93 matches.

Napoli are also eyeing a teammate of Ekkelenkamp, George Ilenikhena, a teenage striker who found the target 14 times last season, 5 of which in the domestic cup. On top of needing a Victor Osimhen replacement, the Azzurri might have to sign a new deputy since Giovanni Simeone isn’t certain to stay.

In the meantime, the Partenopei have almost completed the two priority signings. Rafa Marin is expected to join before the start of the pre-season camp. Moreover, they have almost reached agreement with Torino on the fee for Alessandro Buongiorno and are ironing out the contract of the player.

Our Take on Napoli

Despite last year’s disaster, their squad doesn’t have many glaring holes other than in the back, and they are taking care of those. After that, they could go back to their bread and butter and roll the dice on a few prodigies with a high ceiling.
