Napoli President Derides Saudi Offer for Their Top Star

Napoli and Aurelio De Laurentiis held on to Victor Osimhen in the summer despite the determined advances from Saudi Arabia. Al-Hilal in particular seemed close to snapping up the Nigerian star midway through the winter window. They reportedly tendered €40M per year to the player.

That wasn’t the case, though. The suitors never came closer to the Partenopei’s demands, as an email by the team president leaked by L’Equipe reveals (via SportMediaset).

“You can only buy one foot of Osimhen with your €200M bid. I think you’ll be able to offer us €500M next year. Maybe we will consider it then. Maybe. Best regards.”

De Laurentiis CC’d the player’s agent Roberto Calenda, with whom he continues to negotiate the extension of the striker. The talks are reportedly down to the final details.

Despite the recent loss to Lazio, Osimhen is off to a strong start, having bagged four games in the first three rounds.

Our Take on Osimhen and Al-Hilal

The additions by the Azzurri will need some time to prove their worth, but their summer was a success for this reason alone. While these reports are a bit fishy, they surely turned down a boatload of money at some point. That’s not easy to do for any Serie A team nowadays.
