Napoli Pursuit of Touted Getafe Fullbacks Hits a Snag

Napoli have been pursuing Mathias Olivera for multiple months but, despite the rumors, it is not a done deal yet. Getafe insist that the Azzurri should trigger his release clause to sign him. Instead, the Italian club, which has already come to terms with the players, do not want to spend that much.

According to SportMediaset, Los Azulones require €20M to let him go, as indicated in his contract. Instead, the Partenopei have put on the table at most €12M. It remains to be seen whether the parties will be able to meet in the middle.

In the meantime, Napoli are looking for possible alternatives to Olivera. Faouzi Ghoulam will leave at the end of his expiring deal. They will bring in a youngster to pair up with Mario Rui on the left defensive flank. Their top scout Maurizio Micheli recently attended an AZ Alkmaar game to observe Owen Wijndal. However, the 22-year-old has a few suitors, a €15M price tag and sizeable demands on wages.

Empoli president Fabrizio Corsi revealed that the Partenopei are among the teams tracking Fabiano Parisi. They were also one of the first sides to set their sights on Andrea Cambiaso. The Genoa youngster could move for cheap since his contract runs out in 2023 and his team got relegated. The Azzurri touched base with Bologna for Aaron Hickey, but he will most likely join Arsenal for over €20M, Calciomercato informs. According to Corriere dello Sport, Napoli will soon make a final attempt for Olivera before moving on.
