Napoli Seek New Exec to Avoid Wasting Osimhen Windfall

Napoli are headed for a busy summer where they’ll have to remedy the mistakes they made in previous windows. Among their recent newcomers, Cyril Ngonge has been the only convincing one, although he has had a limited role.

The Azzurri are searching for a new sporting director who could replace or perhaps help Mauro Meluso, Corriere dello Sport informs (via Tuttomercatoweb). They have rekindled their interest in Empoli’s exec Pietro Accardi. Verona’s Sean Sogliano, Bari’s Ciro Polito, and former Milan official Frederic Massara are also on their radar.

Napoli will have plenty to spend as they expect Victor Osimhen to leave for over €100M. Newcomers Jens Cajuste and Natan will likely be given more time. Instead, Jesper Lindstrom could be made available because he was pretty expensive, La Gazzetta dello Sport relays (via OneFootball).

Hamed Traoré has a chance to stay, but it will hinge on his performances and whether the team could find a comparable or better contributor for less money. The Azzurri are very keen on Lewis Ferguson.

The Scot isn’t the only Bologna player in their crosshairs. They also like Joshua Zirkzee and Riccardo Calafiori a lot. The former is a candidate to replace Osimhen along with Lille’s Jonathan David and Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez.

Our Take on Napoli

Great directors don’t grow on trees, but they’ll have to find somebody competent who can stand up to the president. They have a lot of holes but shouldn’t be too hasty with the foreigners who just joined.
