Napoli Set Sights on Empoli Goalie and Budding Starlet

Napoli are the latest team to lay eyes on Guglielmo Vicario, even though Alex Meret has been tremendous this season after penning an extension. His performances have drawn the attention of Premier League sides. The Azzurri are open to weighing offers, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.

Federico Pastorello, the agent of the current starter, addressed his future to Rai (via TeleRadioStereo).

“Before putting pen to paper, he played five games knowing that they could have brought in another goalkeeper at any moment. He was very capable, cool-headed, and professional in handling the situation. We are very happy for re-upping. He’s young and studious and has many ideas. Considering that, I expect him to try an experience abroad, since he’s a model guy.”

On top of Vicario, Napoli also have breakout star Tommaso Baldanzi in their crosshairs. They have strong rapport with Empoli. They would likely include Bari goalkeeper Elia Caprile in the package, so the counterparty wouldn’t have to look for a substitute.

As for the attacker, president Fabrizio Corsi stated that they want to keep hold of him for the next year and a half to allow him to flourish fully. But if he keeps performing as he currently is, holding suitors at bay will be hard.

Our Take on Napoli and Vicario

Even though it has worked out this season, Meret and the Partenopei don’t seem to be on the best of terms and what happened last summer left some splinters. The Empoli star would be a safe and not overly expensive replacement but might have lower upside.
