Napoli Set Sights on Physical Leicester City Midfielder

Napoli have earmarked Boubakary Soumaré to address their midfield. The Partenopei need to bring in a new backup to substitute Tanguy Ndombélé, who wasn’t retained from Tottenham. They’ll sign an extra player if Piotr Zielinski bolts due to his contractual situation.

Per Corriere dello Sport, the Leicester City player would be able to play also in lieu of Stanislav Lobotka if Diego Demme departed. He previously starred for Lille along with Victor Osimhen. He transferred to the Premier League in a €20M in 2021.

Soumaré could potentially join Napoli for a manageable sum considering the Foxes’ relegation. He has collected 59 appearances since crossing the English Channel, assisting once. He scored once and provided 3 helpers in 112 appearances with Les Dogues. The 24-year-old has 14 caps with France U21 under his belt. Torino are interested too.

While they are looking for a physical box-to-box, the Azzurri quickly turned down an offer from Saudi Arabia for Lobotka. Al-Alhi lodged an official proposal, but he’s not for sale, Tuttomercatoweb reports. Only a €65/70M could perhaps change Aurelio De Laurentiis’ mind.

Our Take on Napoli and Soumaré

It remains to be seen whether it will be him or somebody else, but they’ll most likely onboard a midfielder with his traits. Instead, they’ll go after a more technical one if Zielinski leaves.
