Napoli Set to Beat the Competition for Verona Attacker

Napoli are closing in on another January acquisition, as they have struck a deal with Verona to sign Cyril Ngonge. The two parties negotiated overnight. The Azzurri bested especially Fiorentina, which were also keen on the mercurial forward, Alfredo Pedullà relays.

The winger has positively followed up a strong maiden Serie A season in the first portion of the current one. He’s already up to six goals and two assists. He has been a regular on the stat sheets in recent fixtures.

If everything goes well, Napoli will pay nearly €20M including bonuses for Ngonge. The two presidents haggled directly. The ball is in the player’s court at this point. It doesn’t appear there will be issues, even though the Partenopei have more troubles about personal terms than most sides.

The 23-year-old reportedly intended to stay in Italy after receiving some proposals from abroad. He’s the third Verona linchpin to leave in the present window after Isak Hien and Filippo Terracciano. They are trying to dig out of a financial hole following a collapsed takeover by an American fund.

Our Take on Napoli and Ngonge

It’s not really a position of need, but he’s super talented, and the price tag, while not cheap, is still okay. He’s classy but might be a high-usage guy who could struggle to produce with fewer touches. The interesting question is what will happen to Jesper Lindstrom, as it doesn’t look like Matteo Politano is going anywhere.
