Napoli Shortlist Two French Defensive Talents

Napoli started the season brilliantly, going unbeaten until recently, and falling four points behind league leader Inter. The Partenopei’s drop in form has come through the lack of consistency and with the Italian club bearing the brunt of Africa Cup of Nations – with the departures of Kalidou Koulibaly and Andre-Franck Zambo Anguissa to their respective nations – reinforcements are the need of the hour in Naples.

Luciano Spalletti’s side look to recreate their first-half-of-the-season performance in a bid to win their first Scudetto since the 1989/90 season.

In order to bolster the squad and reinforce the club ahead of the second part of the season, two French targets are said to have been shortlisted by the Partenopei (via FootMercato). The two names in the air are Laywin Kurzawa and Lucas Digne.

The former has disappeared off the radar at Paris Saint-Germain, appearing just once – for nine minutes –  in PSG’s Trophee Des Champions final loss to French champions LOSC Lille at the start of the season. His contract in the French capital expires in June 2024 and his current status in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad is full doubt, making him an almost certain target at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

On the other hand, Lucas Digne is facing a similar ordeal at Everton, under Spanish coach Rafael Benitez. The Frenchman has been restricted to just 15 appearances across all competitions this season. The Toffees are touted to sign Vitaliy Mykolenko from Dynamo Kyiv, and a move might be on the books for Digne.

Lucas Digne has a transfermarkt value of €35m, as opposed to Kurzawa who will arrive in 1/4th of his price tag.
