Davide Frattesi moved from Sassuolo to Inter last summer, but Napoli tried to interfere with the Nerazzurri until he put pen to paper. The Partenopei spent part of the summer in the dark concerning Piotr Zielinski’s future. They added Jens-Lys Cajuste and tracked Gabri Veiga in the midfield.
Transfer market expert Gianluca DI Marzio revealed the tidbit to ZonaFanta on Instagram (via OneFootball).
“Many teams were interested in Frattesi. He gave his priority to Inter. He thought it was the best fit considering how their three-man midfield works. However, he didn’t outright reject the other sides. Juventus, Roma, and Milan all tried. They needed to sell before buying, though.”
“Napoli put forth some raises until he was inside the Nerazzurri HQ. Aurelio De Laurentiis and director Maurizio Micheli continuously called his agent to tell him not to go there.”
In the end, Frattesi stayed true to his word and transferred to Milan in a €6M loan spell with a €27M obligation to buy, plus €5M add-ons. The Nerazzurri paid a small premium for the convoluted formula.
The midfielder has yet to draw his first start but bagged his maiden goal to round out the result in the Derby della Madonnina.

He transferred relatively early even though the rumors about him have been going on forever. The Azzurri would have probably put pedal to the medal if Zielinski departed. Keeping ahold of the Pole is an acceptable consolation prize.
