Napoli Star Victor Osimhen Feeling Better After Scary Head Injury

Victor Osimhen remains hospitalized to monitor his conditions, but he is doing better after passing out on the pitch as the back of his head forcefully bounced off the ground in the final minutes of the Atalanta game. He re-gained consciousness only few minutes later while the ambulance was taking him to the nearby Papa Giovanni XXIII clinic in Bergamo.

He spent the night there assisted by Napoli’s doctor Rafael Canonico, who will stay with him until he is discharged, which should happen by the end of the day, Gazzetta dello Sport reports. The tests on his head trauma came back negative, Napoli announced late on Sunday night. He will be visited by renowned neurosurgeon Alfredo Bucciero once he will be back in Naples. According to Repubblica, the striker has no recollection of the incident and the fact that the initial attempts to revive him were unsuccessful generated significant apprehension at the stadium.

Osimhen will have to rest for some time and the timetable for his return is up in the air. The outlets indicate that his presence for the next two matches versus Granada and Benevento seems out of the question at this point. It will further add to Napoli’s long list of absentees as Hirving Lozano and Andrea Petagna are currently dealing with thigh problems. On the other hand, Dries Mertens has headed back to Italy today after spending time in Antwerp to rehab a lingering ankle injury and should be able to resume playing later this week after missing the past five matches.
