Napoli Striker Simeone Credits Successes to ‘Great’ Full-Backs

Napoli are flying high this season, largely due to the work ethic put together by the team across all positions. Striker Giovanni Simeone has particularly praised the Partenopei’s strengths on the wings, picking out two protagonists he believes are key to the team’s successes.

Speaking to Radio Kiss Kiss (via TuttoNapoli) in an exclusive interview, the ex-Hellas Verona forward shed light and heaped praise on Napoli’s wingbacks Mario Rui and Giovanni di Lorenzo.

“Mario Rui has incredible quality and vision. When a player, especially a full-back, has time to stop and see the attacker’s movement, it becomes easier for an attacker.”

He then shifted the attention to his fellow right-back.

“Look at the first goal with Rangers: it was Di Lorenzo at give me that pass for the net. In this team, in the big teams that want to reach the top, you need strong full-backs. Full-backs who know how to play, who know how to cross, who know how to build difference on the pitch and we have great full backs. This is very important to us.”

Napoli are currently cruising in Serie A with 32 points, still unbeaten after 12 games, and five points above second-placed Napoli who they face next. However, they go into the clash having tasted their first defeat this term at the hands of Liverpool in the final group matchday of the UEFA Champions League.
