Napoli Surprisingly Appoint Veteran Director Meluso

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis announced to have hired Mauro Meluso as the team’s new sporting director to succeed Cristiano Giuntoli, who recently joined Juventus. The Partenopei weren’t initially expected to bring in a replacement. They were linked to different options, such as Frederic Massara, Igli Tare, and Markus Kroesche as late as Wednesday.

The Partenopei will continue their tradition of hiring officials from smaller clubs. Their previous apical one arrived from Carpi eight years ago. He had replaced Pier Paolo Marino, who came from Udinese.

Meluso spent time in numerous lower-league teams before getting the call from Napoli. He cut his teeth at Foggia, Padova, Pisa, Sangiovannese, Teramo, Ternana, Frosinone, and Cosenza. His biggest achievement was contributing to bringing Lecce back to the top flight after they had dropped to Serie C.

He was let go following their relegation in 2020 and quickly inked a three-year contract with Spezia. He parted ways with the Aquilotti after one season, even though they reached their goal that season.

Napoli add Meluso to their incumbent officials, as nobody has transferred to Turin along with Giuntoli. De Laurentiis is very hands-on with the transfer market, which will continue to be the case for the entire summer.
